Who doesn’t like to ride a bike? From child riding to adult riding, whether for fun, commuting or otherwise, it’s both a fun and useful activity no matter where you live. More recently, cycling has taken on a whole new dimension. level with the creation of custom bikes.
Vivélo, based in Miami, is an innovative bike shop specializing in handcrafted bikes with lightweight aluminum frames, handmade saddles and grips, Swiss powder coating technology and more. CEO and Founder Piotr Nowocien recently opened his headquarters in Miami’s bustling Wynwood neighborhood after tremendous business growth last year that even garnered celebrity acclaim. People like Kevin O’Leary of Shark Tank love the bikes so much he’s bought several and even made a video about them.
Handcrafted, customizable bikes with colorful spokes and hand-sewn seats look like beach cruisers and chopper bikes that stand out even in a place as bright as Miami.
“The US market has huge potential, but it’s not easy,” says the businessman who launched Vivélo in 2019. “In a very tough market, full of cheaper bikes made in China, I decided not to compete on price but to build the best quality cruiser bikes. Each customer can design their bike using an online configurator, and our team assembles the bike by hand in our head office located on Main Street in Wynwood.
“Our customers use bicycles as sports equipment and as a practical design gadget. With this, we will make cycling popular even with people who have never thought of buying a bike before. My plan is to make Vivelo the trendiest beach cruiser brand on the market.
When the CEO isn’t in the store and helping oversee dozens of daily orders of hand-assembled bikes, he’s on the go all over Florida. Here are some of his favorite places to eat in Miami.
“Kyu Miami at Wynwood is one of my favorite spots for its wood-fired specials and inventive Asian-inspired cuisine,” Nowocien says. “Their wood-fired selection is amazing with dishes like the Stone Pot of Thai Fried Rice with Fried Egg, King Crab or Duck Confit and then there’s the 32 oz. wagyu tomahawk with roasted onion miso butter which is amazing.”
“Kyu offers a great selection of “crispy and crunchy” bites including tuna crispy rice; hamachi crispy rice; and pork gyoza. Another section worth trying is the “chilled and chilled” section. My favorites are the sliced hamachi and the tuna tataki, both of which are super fresh.
The Chick in Wynwood is another restaurant Newocians frequent thanks to its delicious selection of tender baby back ribs and burgers that include the Valentina burger with a dry-aged 3oz patty, marinated chicken leg, arugula salad with rose petals, pickled cherry mustard seeds and cheese fondue. Other stacked sandwiches include the Royal with Cheese, which features 3oz dry-aged double brisket patties, cheddar and a secret sauce on a sesame brioche bun.
“The Chick is a cozy place with something indulgent for everyone.”
“If I have a more casual meeting and want to build a relationship with a business partner, I take her to Jaya at the Setai Hotel for the Chili Passion Martini after dinner in Miami Beach. Jaya during the evenings is great I’m a big fan of their seafood dishes, especially the octopus, accompanied by champagne.
Jaya at the Setai is an elegant hotel restaurant that serves Asian cuisine with Indian accents from places such as Thailand and Vietnam. Popular dishes include authentic dim sum selections; dishes prepared in the wok such as salmon curry from Panang; and a tandoor and curry section. The tender chicken makhani and sea bass tikka with coriander mint marmalade are always a hit.
“Guests love the seaside atmosphere here and also enjoy creative offerings such as the restaurant’s yellowfin tuna with avocado, ginger, radish, kaffir lime and yuzu kosho; as well as the lamp chops with turmeric potatoes, curry and mango cucumber yogurt.
“Another great stopover for meetings is Fiola Miami,” he continues. “This Italian restaurant offers a beautiful setting for a special dinner with a client. Fiola is also known for its extensive wine list, especially Italian wines.
From start to finish, the offerings are delicious and include dishes such as truffle spaghetti alla chittara with truffles, butter and parmigiano reggiano; tonnarelli al nero di seppia alle vongole with clams, clams and clams, Calabrian peppers; as well as an excellent starter — bison steak tartare with parmigiano cream, sunny-side-up farm egg.
Having the personal touch of in-person meetings gives Nowocien a competitive edge, especially as his company will soon enter the e-bike market with a project using an Italian design studio that will use German technical solutions.
