(WCMH) – If you’ve got kids on your shopping list this holiday season – or adults hoping for a trending gadget – you need to start shopping now, as many of the hottest items will likely be gone. here on Black Friday.
We’ve all heard the warnings about potential shortages, but many buyers are still waiting to purchase their holiday toys.
“I thought about shopping, but I said, ‘No, I’ll wait until later. I’m a procrastinator, ”one customer told us as she walked out of the Target store in Oakley.
But this is not the year of procrastination, according to Rob Keirney, manager of a small area-owned toy store.
“We already have people buying in panics,” Keirney said.
Store managers say there is no overall toy shortage. After all, their shelves look pretty well stocked. But they warn there is a shortage of the most popular toys kids demand this year.
What toys are already in short supply
Parade Magazine just listed the hottest toys already hard to find, and it will only get worse.
- Tonka trucks
- Hot Wheels Monster Truck Playset
- Lego Super Mario Adventures
- LOL Surprise Movie Magic Studios
- Magic Mixes Magic Fogger Cauldron
Rob Keirney says if you find one, grab it now.
“If you see the item you are looking for, don’t wait like you would in years gone by,” he said.
Parade says adult toys in short supply include:
- Sony PS5
- Microsoft Xbox
- Nintendo Switch
- The new Apple Watch Series 6
So what can you do? Visit stores when they open. Target has often restocked their toy shelves when they open at 7-8 a.m.
Check Amazon and other online retailers daily, or even twice a day. Ask stores for alternative items. Kierney says if you can’t find a Tonka shovel or excavator, try Bruder trucks from Germany.
“Go for Bruder. It’s a great company,” Kierney said.
No LOL dolls? LOL, no problem.
Kierney suggested Calico Critters or Polly Pocket dolls, similar dolls that come with multiple outfits. Buyer Ashley Cook has another approach, too: tell your kids it’s a year for other things.
“It allows young people to be creative,” Cook said. “Maybe we can get some art instead of all these toys.”
Stores typically hold products for Black Friday, so many of these items may appear on shelves early on the Friday morning after Thanksgiving (most stores are closed on Thanksgiving night). But know that you will be competing with hordes of other parents on this day.
So buy early so you don’t waste your money.
