Memorial service honors fallen Pueblo officers

PUEBLO, Co. – A fallen officer memorial service honoring the brave men and women of Pueblo County who lost their lives in the line of duty on Tuesday.

The Pueblo Police Department, Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office, and Colorado State Patrol hosted the service at the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk near Alan Hamel Ave.

To celebrate National Police Week, the names of the deceased officers were read by their respective organizations and members of the honor guard gave a volley salute.

At Tuesday’s memorial service was Mianna Defusco, sister of Pueblo County Sheriff’s Capt. Leide Defusco, who died in the line of duty in 2012.

“My brother’s children were very small when he died and his daughter is now 15, soon to be 16… They have been so good to her. People are checking in all the time and it’s heartwarming to know that everyone’s bond is so close,” Defusco said.

Representatives of the Pueblo Fallen Peace Officer Memorial Foundation also unveiled plans for the future Fallen Officer Memorial Wall. The wall will be engraved with the names of deceased officers and will be available to the community and visitors to pay their respects to these individuals.
