Penn State’s under-the-radar players head to preseason camp

Welcome to our post-spring training roundtable series on Penn State football. In it, our three full-time beat writers will address many of the most important questions facing James Franklin’s Nittany Lions as they look to summer practices and — ultimately — camp. pre-season. This episode was aimed at players who were flying under the radar heading into preseason camp.

PSU is coming off a disappointing 7-6 2021 campaign, but appears to have solid spring practice. By all reports, the offense was much more advanced under the second-year coordinator Mike Yurcitch than he was in 2021. That said, injury issues along the offensive line have led to depth issues in that specific area.

Meanwhile, new defensive coordinator Manny Diaz seemed to fit in well with the staff he inherited from the old DC Brent Pry. But the Lions were suffering in the depth department at linebacker on that side of the ball.

There’s a lot to talk about, and we’re here to do it. New staff member Daniel Gallen got first chance on every question, followed by Tyler Donohue, then me. In order to cover as much territory as possible, we each take a different angle on each specific issue.

As always, your feedback is encouraged. And if you think we missed something, please let us know and explain why.
