UPDATE: The PS5 could drop to Very, BT and Smyths Toys soon. Read on for more information.

It’s now 2022, and somehow the PlayStation 5 (PS5), which launched over a year ago in November 2020, is still hard to buy in the UK, both Online and in-store. Supply issues and a global chip shortage caused by the coronavirus pandemic have slowed production of Sony’s game console.

But if it’s your New Years resolution to finally get your hands on one, fear not, because the IndyBest team are here to help. December was the best restocking month on record, with 53 drops across Currys, PlayStation Direct, Game, BT and AO. Although the start of January has been slow, we are only seeing drops at AO and EE, as well as small independent retailers like Ebuyer and The Game Collection, most retailers are probably still in the process of picking up and recovering their products. stock levels, so we’re hoping for bigger and better things as January progresses.

Our liveblog is here to give you the latest information on restocking from all major UK retailers, both online and in store, as well as providing details on release rumors, as well as the latest games and accessories. PS5 to buy. Keep scrolling for the latest information.

How do I get a PlayStation Direct PS5 invitation?

PlayStation Direct uses an invitation system to distribute the PS5 (similar to BT), inviting some lucky PSN users to buy the console before the rest of the audience. Stock usually goes live around 8 a.m. and then the retailer opens orders for everyone around 10 a.m. But how do you get an invitation?

It’s an extremely vague process, and we’re not very familiar with the mechanics of how the PlayStation Direct invitation system works. As far as we know, the main requirement is that you need a PSN account. You probably need to be a bit network active i.e. playing games on your PS4 to get an invite as well.

Other than that, it seems to be completely hit and miss. We’ve seen people who already own a PS5 receive an invitation to purchase the console, although they clearly don’t need it. We expect another PlayStation Direct restock to take place next week.

Need an Xbox Series X?

Struggling to find a PS5? It’s a tough old life hunting cattle, we know that. But if you’re looking for Microsoft’s next-gen console, you’re in luck! It’s never been easier to take the Xbox Series X with you than it is today.

The Xbox Series X is currently in stock at Asda, Smyths Toys, and EE. If you’re looking for the next best thing, your hunt is over. Head over to our Xbox Series X Replenishment liveblog to find out how you can get it.

When was the last restocking of Currys PS5?

Currys had a monster month of restocking in December, after finally ditching its PS5 VIP raffle system and starting selling the consoles to everyone. There were eight in total, and we hope many more will follow in January.

The console isn’t in stock at the retailer right now, but if we use the Xbox Series X as an example, we could definitely see more of it this month. Currys is one of the best places to find an Xbox Series X, with (on average) the console restocking the most often per month. Hopefully the PS5 will follow. Keep your eyes open.

Should you buy a PS5 from CeX?

Ah CeX, the ass of playground jokes and nostalgia for childhood secondhand games. Although we think fondly of CeX, we recommend that you do not purchase a PS5 from the retailer.

You’ll be paying the wazoo for a standalone record editing console, with the retailer currently selling it for £ 650. The console usually costs around £ 449, so it’s better to wait for Amazon or Very to restock the console than to buy it for an extra £ 200.

We expect BT PS5 stock to drop soon

(The independent)

BT customers, prepare your account details, we are planning another replenishment at the retailer very soon. Yesterday EE had a pretty long replenishment and that usually means one thing – a replenishment at BT. This is because EE and BT are basically attached to the hip. When one retailer has a restock, the other is usually not far behind with one of their own.

BT tends to favor Mondays, so don’t be surprised to see a replenishment taking place on Monday morning. Obviously, with the post-Christmas confusion some replenishment models are a bit offbeat, so a pinch of salt is recommended.

Could Game PS5 consoles come back in stock this month?

If you were with us over the Christmas holidays you would have seen how long the PS5 was in stock. The retailer uploaded it on December 23, but it wasn’t sold until December 31 – nine days later, so if you’re looking for another drop at Game, you might wait a while.

Priority Assured Orders for the PS5 are only arriving at customers’ doors today or next week, with all other orders scheduled to ship on January 21. We might see a restock the week starting January 17th, but we think it’s more likely that Game will have a drop in the last week of January instead. It is never easy to be Nostradamus.

The game has a large number of bundles, all of which can be viewed on its PS5 bundles page.

Could Smyths Toys PS5 stock drop soon?

(iStock / The Independent)

Aside from an online drop on December 2, Smyths Toys has only had in-store exclusive drops, which we suspect is quite successful, otherwise it would have reverted to its old model of ditching online consoles. and in store at the same time. .

The retailer last carried out an in-store restocking on December 16, with consoles supposed to be in the arms of customers just days before Christmas. Frustratingly, the retailer no longer updates their website when they have an in-store drop, so we mostly rely on the Twitter stock tracker leaks to know when an in-store drop is going to take place.

Smyths likes to restock in-store around the start of the month, with customers having to pay a small deposit when they initially walk in to reserve a console. It could restock any day of the week next week, but we should get more concrete information soon.

When could Very PS5 consoles drop next?

(The independent)

Very had three drops in December – that’s a lot for the retailer, who usually only has one or (on rare occasions) two drops per month. We believe that the online store will only return to its normal replenishment model now that things have calmed down after Christmas.

A restocking could take place next week, potentially Tuesday or Wednesday around 10 a.m. Very is a good retailer to keep in mind. While restockings don’t happen too frequently, they tend to last a few hours, and sister brand Littlewoods tends to drop at the same time.

A recap of today’s PS5 replenishment events

Okay, we’re closing shop here on the blog for tonight but it’s been a pretty successful day. We haven’t seen one, not two, but three retailers abandon their inventory today – EE, AO and The Game Collection.

The latter’s gigantic £ 799.95 PS5 pack is still in stock if it interests you at all – although we know it’s not for everyone. Haven’t taken one from AO or EE? We will be back tomorrow morning to present all of the restockings for Friday in real time. Bye!
