A new software update fixed previous issues with TCL sets only available from Best Buy.
TCL provided a new software update to its Google TV powered televisions for performance issues in early December 2021. With the new update, TCL claims that the performance and software issues that had plagued the Google TV line have been corrected.
Here’s all you need to know.
TCL resolves performance issues for its Google TV range
The Google TV-powered TCL Series 5 and 6 TVs, which Best Buy sells exclusively, have been pulled from shelves following complaints from early adopters of performance issues.
But the line is now back on sale after TCL pushed a software update that the company says fixes the issues. So if you’ve been waiting to jump on TCL’s 5 and 6 Series Google TVs, then maybe now is the time to do it.
If you are having the same issues on your Google TV powered TCL TV, you need to update to the latest software version.
How to update your Google TV powered TCL TV
Although TCL says its Google TVs should update automatically in the background, you can always verify that you are using the latest update. Here’s how to manually check for the update:
- Make sure you have connected your TV to the Internet.
- Press the Settings button on your remote to open a panel on the right side of the TV screen.
- To select Settings.
- Then go to System > On > System update.
- Finally, select Network update.
You will see a software update message box if an update is available. In this case, follow the on-screen instructions to update your TV software. If you don’t see the software update message box, it means your TV is running the latest version.
An improved TCL television
Software updates are important whether it’s on your smartphone, smart TV, game console, or any other smart gadget. Updates often include performance improvements, system improvements, and security and bug fixes.
With that in mind, always check for software updates on your gadgets to make sure you are using the latest version.
