I have always believed that effective cleansing is an essential first step towards beautiful skin. So I was delighted to try the Foreo Luna 3 Plus, especially after hearing all the hype about it.
At first glance
The product I am trying is the Foreo Luna 3 Plus for sensitive skin that is purple, which I love. I could fit the whole gadget in one palm, and it’s light at just 150g. I was looking for an ON button when I realized I needed to turn on my Bluetooth on my smartphone and configure it before I started using it.
Establishment
I love technology, but don’t they sometimes make you want to pull your hair out? Surprisingly, the smart Luna 3 Plus, for all of its functions, was easy to install. No tedious manual to read. Fabulous! Scan the QR code on the product packaging, download the Foreo for you app, enter some information, and it’s good! It only took me a few minutes to do it.
Surfing the app was a breeze. With a few clicks of my fingertips, I was ready to go. Those new to this can choose to stick with the default settings or lower the intensity. I say try the default settings before adjusting any. I have to say I was impressed with how the whole setup and exploration process was dumb-proof.
There is a page on “How to Use”, “Device Care”, “Treatments”, “Settings”, “Cleaning” and “Massage”. There’s even a “Find my device” mode that will vibrate the device if it’s not in plain sight!
And now, it’s time for the actual trial.
How to use
1. Always cleanse your face with makeup and sunscreen before using Luna 3 Plus.
2. Apply the cleansing foam to the moistened face or gadget. I prefer to do it on the face to know that all the patterns are covered.
3. Press the removal button to activate the cleaning process by moving the gadget in circular motions. The movements are distributed between the forehead, the left and right cheeks and finally the chin area. The device will take a split second break when it is time for you to move on to another part of your face.
First thoughts
I love how manageable it is to relearn how I usually clean my face (with my hands or a sponge). The silicone bristles were soft to the touch. As a person with rosacea, my face tends to redden quickly. At 8,000 beats per minute, I was glad my skin didn’t develop any redness after use. My face was cleaner than usual, without a feeling of tightness. I continued with my moisturizing routine and felt my skin absorbed the skincare products better. Yes, after just one use.
I was happy to hear that I can adjust the heat settings as well. The gadget’s gentle warm feeling, which supposedly pushes dirt, oil and makeup out of the pores, provided a very relaxing feeling during use. I was initially hesitant about the thermal function, but overcame my concerns as the gadget is shower resistant. The heat was so gentle that I finally cranked it up a notch after several uses.
What i wish could be better
The pauses between cleaning different parts of the face are so subtle that I missed them several times. Blame it on ultra-comfortable micro-currents! They were so relaxing that I zoned out a bit while using them and missed the push to move on to other parts of my face. If only the breaks were a little longer.
Home facial massage session
With the coronavirus going on, I completely stopped seeing my dermatologist for over a year. Since then, I have been researching alternative beauty treatments that I can perform at home. So I was thrilled to find out how the little device could help lift my skin in addition to cleaning.
First impressions of lifting
Using the massage function was a snap. Just follow the video guide, which has a template clearly showing you how to hold and position the gadget, as well as the direction to move it along your face. After that, follow up with the moisturizer of your choice.
There are a total of five lifting treatments; for the I. Complete toning of the face, ii. Targeted eye treatment, iii. Laugh line treatment, iv. Forehead smoothing and lifting and iv. Neck treatment. I love how I can choose which pieces I want to work on, especially if I’m pressed for time. Treatments vary between three and six minutes each. Surely you have a few minutes to devote to your skin every day? I like to use lifting treatments as part of my beauty routine. The soft buzz of the gadget is reassuring and feels a bit like a lullaby.
Gentle reminder
There are several things to consider when using the device.
1. The LUNA 3 plus must be completely dry before using the microcurrent treatment (facelift), which can be activated only through the Foreo app.
2. Start with clean, dry skin using Foreo’s Conductive Serum.
3. Never use the gadget without serum. The serums act as a conductor and reduce friction between the device and your skin. I use the Foreo Serum Serum Serum.
4. Wear a tank top or any top that allows the gadget to move along the neck whenever you choose the neck treatment.
5. Rinse the gadget with a mild cleansing foam (body foam works great), wipe it dry and remove it from the water. Even though the product is shower resistant, it is still worth taking extra care. You wouldn’t want to shell out more money on a new one before the end of its lifespan, would you?
What could be better
After trying the product for at least three weeks, my main complaint is that the gadget has lost connection several times while using it. Imagine ending up with a stationary device after treating only one eye!
After some experimentation, I realized that the beauty device and the smartphone should not drop below a certain percentage of battery for them to work. Also, the problem did not reappear when my smartphone and device were nearby every time I used them.
But does it live up to its hype?
I love that the functions are super easy to navigate, from cleaning to lifting. Not to mention how pretty it looks sitting on my wardrobe. Sliding easily into my hands, the gadget is also light enough that it doesn’t feel strained when in use. I also like that it’s a 2 in 1 device, which helps me save precious cabinet space.
There are a total of 16 intensities (wow) and an adjustable temperature to choose from. This is where Foreo over-delivers. I am at an intensity level of 9 (the default is 8) and have no desire to change. But it’s good to know that we can always increase the intensity if we want to.
It might be early to find out if the lift feature is working since I’ve only been using it for three weeks. But I consider it the next best thing I can do for my skin since I decided to postpone my skin treatments with my dermatologist. For now, the Foreo Luna 3 Plus is a good alternative to skin care as I continue to monitor and get the COVID-19 situation under control.
As with all things, moderation is the key. Note that the device should ideally only be used once a day. And since a four hour charge offers up to 125 uses, it will take me months before I need to charge the device – a big A for convenience!
So is it worth it?
With a price tag of S $ 469, it’s not exactly a beauty tool that everyone is willing to invest in. One of the biggest selling points of this device is the way it helps the skin absorb skin care and better grip of my makeup. Imagine spending a lot of money on top quality skin care, but the skin does not absorb all of its good qualities. The Foreo Luna 3 Plus can help you remedy this.
Certainly, there is nothing wrong with using our bare hands to clean our faces. But why not let a smart device do the work for you? Whether you are quantifying by the cost of overseas travel that you have saved since the start of the pandemic, using the average dollar costs, or evaluating through the skin care benefits derived from the use product, the Foreo Luna 3 Plus is a must have in any beauty lover’s hiding place. It is also a great Christmas gift for yourself and a loved one.
