So it was discouraging. Things went from surprisingly good to disappointingly bad to worse for the New Orleans Saints as the Week 9 games progressed. Early on, Sunday’s early roster set up well for them — the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers lost flat, which further leveled the division standings.
And the Los Angeles Rams were in control of their game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers until well after sunset, only to be choked out in the final minutes with the saddest soft-zone cover this side of the Mississippi River. . The Buccaneers won, the Rams dropped the Saints once again, and the Saints entered Monday night’s game jumping in place.
Instead, New Orleans was passed on both sides of the ball and they crumbled in front of a national audience. They are not ranked last within the NFC South, but they are very close. Here is the division standings after week 9:
