The “most popular” mobile game on Google Play Store in the month of June 2022 is Garena Free Fire from Garena. According detection tower‘Top Mobile Games Worldwide for June 2022 by Downloads’, Garena Free Fire by Garena was the most downloaded game on Google App Store for Android users. Garena Free Fire was banned earlier this year by India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The game was among 54 apps that the Indian government blocked for reasons related to the country’s security, defense and sovereignty. These apps allegedly collect sensitive user data and are considered a “threat to national security”. Other important games that have been stuck with Garena Free Fire include Isoland 2: Ashes of Time Lite; Rise of Kingdoms: Lost Crusade; Conquer Online and Twilight Pioneers.
The second “most popular” game in the world on Android and iPhone
Garena Free Fire is the second most installed mobile game in the world for the month of June with 24.7 million installs on Google Play Store and Apple App Store. This number represents an increase of 26.9% compared to the same period last year (June 2021). The global mobile games market generated 4.6 billion downloads on the App Store and Google Play in June 2022, marking a 2.2% year-over-year increase.
For those unaware, Garena Free Fire is a survival shooter where approximately 10 minutes of gameplay places players on a remote island where they face off against 49 other players, all in search of survival. Players can choose their starting point with their parachute and aim to stay in the safe zone for as long as possible. The only goal is to survive and answer the “call of duty”.
India tops mobile game downloads globally
India ranked first in the world in game downloads. The country saw 844.8 million installs during the month, or 18.4% of total global downloads. The United States ranked second in downloads with around 9%, followed by Brazil with around 8%.
Other popular Chinese apps banned in February 2022
The list of 54 banned in February 2022 also includes messaging and dating apps such as CuteU: Match With The World, CuteU Pro and FunChat Meet People Around You. Video-based social media platforms include SmallWorld, FancyU, MoonChat, and RealU. Prominent names of photo enhancement and editing apps are sweet selfie HD and beauty camera, equalizer and bass booster, CamCard business card scanner app, Viva Video Editor video editing app, AppLock lock service app and Dual Space Lite interface clone app.
