wear: Google begins rolling out Wear OS 3 Contacts app design update, now available as a standalone app on Play Store


Google redesigned apps for Wear OS 3 for quite some time. The tech giant has now released the updated Contacts app with a new design on the Play Store. According to a report by 9to5Google, in Wear OS 2, the Contacts app was a built-in system app and it received updates along with the operating system. However, with the update, the Contacts app is now available for users to download and update through Google. play store as a standalone application.
Speaking of design, the updated Contacts app for Wear OS 3 boasts of a streamlined user interface. The first thing users will see is the search button placed at the top center of the app. Below is the list of users’ favorite contacts in a pill-shaped design.
Apart from this, the updated Contacts app also allows users to add a contact in complications on their watch face for a quick call or message. The complication on the watch face shows the image of the contact and if the image is not related to the contact, it will display the first initial of the name.
The redesigned Contacts app is only available for Wear OS 3 running on Galaxy Watch 4. Reports suggest that older Wear OS watches currently show the Contacts app in the Play Store and haven’t received any updates for it. existing Contacts app. That means it remains to be seen whether the app will be exclusive to devices running Wear OS 3 or have a wider user base.
